Image100 - Introduction to Image Processing with GIMP and Inkscape

The graphics from all magazines and posters and books are a combination of two types of images: bitmap and vector. Bitmap images are made by small pixels, and the images you capture with your digital camera or scanner are bitmap. Vector images are made by lines and the advantage is that they do not loose resolution, regardless of how we zoom.

The purpose of this hands-on tutorial is to show how to do a quick, yet real project of creating a poster or brochure using GIMP (bitmap) and Inkscape (vector) image processing software.

GIMP is a free graphics bitmap editor and stands for the GNU Image Manipulation Program. You can resize images, compress images, layer images, create graphics and more using the GIMP.used to touch up and enhance your photos.

Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw.

Both GIMP and Inkscape are open source and run in all major operating systems: Linux, Unix, Windows and MacOS.

If you wish to have installed this to free programs into your computer and use it during the course, please make sure you contact us ahead so we can have the computer ready for you.
